Funding Opportunities for Farmers

January 2012: Heart of Maine has funding for two new projects for producers in Somerset, Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties*.

Wheat Production

HOM has a small fund to support the purchase or construction of on-farm storage facilities for wheat in our service area.This is a matching grant - HOM to provide up to $1500 in costs for such facilities. This grant is for producers who already have the land, planting/harvesting equipment and some experience in wheat production.

Cold Storage Facilities

Vegetable producers in the HOM service area are eligible for a matching grant to construct on-farm cold storage facilities. HOM will provide up to $1000 in matching funds for producers interested in and willing to construct a "Cool Bot" cold room for produce storage. (Go to www.storeitcold.com for details.) Construction guidelines for the Cool Bot system must be followed.
